Juventus player ratings vs Parma: Giorgio Chiellini delivers win in opener
By John Vaccaro
LW: Cristiano Ronaldo 7.5/10
This could have been a phenomenal start to the season for Cristiano Ronaldo. He had 3 or 4 really good chances to score in this match, but was unable to finish and the one chance he actually beat the keeper with was ruled out because he was offside. Still, even with his inability to score, he was a threat throughout the match. He combined well the rest of the attack and looked like he fit right into Sarri’s system. The match wasn’t the high point it could’ve been, but it was a good start to the year.
ST: Gonzalo Higuain 7.5/10
It looks like Juventus could really have a battle for this starting spot. I predicted that Gonzalo Higuain would eventually overtake Paulo Dybala as the first choice for this spot, but even I didn’t think Dybala’s spot would be in jeopardy this quickly.
Higuain looked unbelievably comfortable in the middle of this attack. He played a perfect ball to Ronaldo in the first half and passed the ball well throughout the rest of the match. His level of effort in this match was something we didn’t even see from him during his first stint with Juve. I’m already ready to declare that Gonzalo Higuain is back after this match.
RW: Douglas Costa 8.5/10
What was there not to love about Douglas Costa in this match? He was constantly dangerous throughout the match. He made a fantastic run on the counterattack to set up Ronaldo’s goal that was taken away by VAR. He even made a great hustle play and got all the way back to block a shot in the box in the second half. This is the Douglas Costa we all expected when Juventus brought him in permanently last season. He’s going to be a monster this season.
