2. Timo Werner

Position: Forward

Club: RB Leipzig

The German forward has been perpetually linked with Liverpool ever since Jurgen Klopp arrived at Anfield four years ago. Werner’s pace and lethal finishing makes him one of the most formidable strikers in world football.

Werner was especially heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer but a move never materialised and the German forward ended up signing a new contract with RB Leipzig. While the new contract silenced the rumours for a little while, in recent times Werner has found himself linked with the Reds once more and the Daily Mirror via Kicker have reported that Werner has an unusually low release clause at just €30m which could potentially entice Jurgen Klopp.

Werner’s direct style, great burst of pace and relentless pressing would certainly suit the Reds but with Roberto Firmino in such a fine form, it is difficult to see where Werner would fit in at Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp might also be reticent to meddle with his perfect team right now.

The move would also not make much sense from Werner’s point of view. The German striker is still just 23 years of age and is currently in his prime, Werner would certainly not want to jeopardise his fine form with the risk of not playing regular football at Liverpool.

Yet despite everything a move might still occur. Stranger things have happened in football especially at Anfield and with Jurgen Klopp a big admirer of Werner the temptation of his low release clause might just be too hard for the German to stop himself from making an ambitious move.
