Sami Khedira

I’m sure that anybody who regularly reads my article won’t be the least bit surprised to see Sami Khedira included on this list. In spite of whatever Maurizio Sarri sees in him, Sami Khedira has been awful for Juve this year.

He seriously just brings nothing to the table. His teammates seem to actively keep the ball away from him, like he was the last pick in gym class, and whenever he does touch the ball, he completely stops any momentum Juve has. He’s slow, doesn’t create anything for the attack, and doesn’t really provide much on the defensive end. However, the fact that Juve is still starting him regularly might at least be good for one thing.

If Khedira’s playing time has convinced a team that Khedira can still be a serviceable player, then Juve might actually be able to get a little bit of money out of offloading Khedira. This winter is probably the last time they’ll be able to do that.

There is also the added benefit that Sarri would no longer be able to waste valuable playing time on Khedira. Juve has quite a few younger players available in their midfield who would get much greater benefit from playing regularly and are already able to contribute more to the squad than Khedira.

Khedira also carries a hefty contract that Juve absolutely doesn’t need to be dealing with right now. Khedira is one of 9 players slated to make over 10 million euros this season, which will hold Juve back financially as they look to put themselves in a position where they don’t have to start players like Sami Khedira. His contract is dead weight and it needs to be shed as soon as possible.

Khedira should be destined to spend the second half of the season on Juve’s bench if he isn’t sold in January, so the best-case scenario here is for Juve to just rid of him while he still has value and move on with the more talented options they already have and an inter reinforcement.
