Tottenham finally find a manager to plug the hole Poch never could
By Kian Long
Jose Mourinho has arrived back in London, this time to manage Tottenham…
Very few managers have managed both Tottenham and Chelsea. In fact, the only two I can recall are Glenn Hoddle and Andre Villas-Boas.
Now Jose Mourinho has joined that list, after it was announced this morning he is the new head coach of Tottenham. He rejoins the Premier League as the most successful manager in the division and that’s exactly what the club needs right now.
Before I get into applauding Jose Mourinho, I must first give an honourable mention to Mauricio Pochettino. He paved the way for many young players such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli to become some of the best young players in the world. However, firing him was the best thing Tottenham could have ever done.
There’s only so much “progress” a manager can become before the loyalty shown to them becomes ridiculous. Pochettino was a great man-manager but that doesn’t excuse the fact he was also the best runner-up in the world. He was always second best and that’s the reason why Tottenham remained a laughing stock.

Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, will never settle for second best. He is a serial winner and he will stop at nothing to get his hands on silverware. Granted, the way he goes about doing that can be questionable at times, especially with his boring tactics.
But when you really think about it; were Tottenham really beautiful in their play under Mauricio Pochettino? For a few seasons, yes they absolutely were. However, especially this season and for large parts of last season, watching them was an absolute chore. They played boring football and would often scrape out for draws.
The way I see it is, in terms of tactics, Jose Mourinho and the recent Mauricio Pochettino are pretty similar. However, the difference between the two of them is, Mourinho actually has major honours to his name.
Tottenham need to be winning silverware and *actually* challenging the big teams. A league cup and Champions League final is simply not enough and that’s why bringing in Jose Mourinho was the best thing Tottenham could ever do.
It may be bittersweet being a Tottenham fan right now. It may take a while to kick in. But Jose Mourinho, the most successful manager in Chelsea’s history is in charge and he takes charge with a purpose.
How do you think Jose Mourinho will fare at Tottenham?
