Juventus player ratings vs Lazio: Juve loses to Lazio again in Supercoppa
By John Vaccaro
LB: Alex Sandro 6.5/10
I was surprised to see Alex Sandro in Juve’s starting lineup after he was injured in Wednesday’s match, but he was actually Juve’s best full back in the match. He managed to contribute somewhat on each end of the field and avoided making any costly mistakes. In this match, that was enough to be better than either of Juve’s right backs.
CB: Merih Demiral 7/10
Merih Demiral was Juve’s best defender in this match. He mad a couple of key tackles inside the box and helped keep Juve in this match. His effort unfortunately wasn’t enough to help Juve get the win, but it was another strong performance for a player who has just broken into the Juve rotation. Having him, Bonucci, Matthijs de Ligt, and Giorgio Chiellini to choose from is going to be really nice for Juve as they try to make a run in the Champions League.
CB: Leonardo Bonucci 5.5/10
This was the least impressive performance we’ve seen in quite some time from Leonardo Bonucci. He wasn’t able to clean up his teammates’ messes and really just wasn’t particularly involved in this match. At least he had his off day in the Supercoppa instead of a Serie A match or Champions League match with more on the line.
RB: Mattia De Sciglio 4.5/10
Starting Mattia De Sciglio at right back with both Juan Cuadrado and Danilo healthy seemed like an odd choice for Maurizio Sarri and it definitely didn’t pay off for him. He didn’t provide much in the attacking end (which is why Cuadrado came on for him in the second half) and he got absolutely torched on Lazio’s opening goal. This was a poor match for De Sciglio.
