Had this transfer taken place before 2018-19 season, Erling Braut Haaland would have been cup-tied.

Manchester United might be one of the best Premier League clubs around, they might be a powerhouse, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be a coach that helps nourish youngster talent but there’s one thing that the Norwegian cannot promise to his compatriot: Champions League football.

If Haaland had chosen United he would have to take a step down and play in the UEFA Europa League. The Old Trafford club has made it to the knockout rounds of the Europa League by finishing first in their group. Manchester United now take on Belgian league leaders Club Brugge in the Round of 32.

Looking at the current state of affairs, Manchester United would not have been able to promise Champions League football next season as well. The club sits 5th but face stiff challenges from Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur for the 4th spot. Additionally, overthrowing Chelsea from the 4th place looks like an arduous task.

Whereas at Dortmund, Erling Braut Haaland will definitely get chances to excite the fans across the globe through his blistering performances in the Champions League. With eight goals in group stages, he is only second to Polish goal machine Robert Lewandowski in the top scorer’s chart.

Die Schwarzgelben take on Paris Saint Germain in the Round of 16. With the arrival of Haaland, the tie has got even more fascinating. To see the thunderous trio of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Mauro Icardi take on the spirited Haaland, Hazard and Reus is certainly a treat to the eye.
