Matteo Kovacic vs Lucas Torreira

This one will likely be the most telling matchup in this fixture. The midfield battles have always caught the eye over the years when Chelsea have faces Arsenal. This match will be no different as Lucas Torreira looks to contain the always deadly Matteo Kovacic.

Kovacic will be given all the license in the world to roam forward, with the defensive discipline of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho accompanying him. However, he will likely run into the brick wall which is Torreira.

If the Uruguayan international is utilised correctly, then he is extremely difficult to get the better of. He is a destroyer-type midfielder that likes to pounce on his opposition and not allow them any time or space on the ball. Chelsea fans will know all about this type of player as they have one of the best in the world in Kante.

Kovacic has scored two goals for Chelsea this season and playing in a box-to-box role, often gets in advances positions. He is key to linking up the play in the final third for Frank Lampard’s side. That said, it is important that Torreira man-marks him to prevent any flowing attacks in Arsenal’s defensive third.
