CDM: Nemanja Matic 6/10

Matic was his usual unspectacular self, and did well to keep control of the midfield in the absence of Fred. The Serbian handled Brugge’s high press in a calm fashion, and kept the ball moving.

While McTominay is undoubtedly a huge miss for United, Matic has managed to fill the 22-year-old’s void to an extend, and has continued to show that he can be an important player for the Red Devils.

CDM: Andreas Pereira 3/10

Another woeful performance from the Brazilian. Central midfield is clearly not his preferred position, and the contrast with compatriot Fred was glaring at times.

Pereira struggled against his physical Belgian counterparts, and his long balls and link-up play was very ineffective.

CAM: Jesse Lingard 6/10

Lingard played like a man with a point to prove, but ultimately couldn’t make much of an impact. He often dropped deep to collect the ball and drive forward, and also hunted Brugge players when they had the ball.

While his passing was mostly faultless, it also lacked creativity. Like Fred and Pereira, the contrast was Bruno Fernandes when he eventually came on was very obvious.

CAM: Juan Mata 4/10

Mata was virtually non-existent in the first half, seeing very little of the ball. He was much more lively after the break, but failed to create any chances of substance.

He got into a few good positions, but was too indecisive when a shot could have at least forced a save from Mignolet. Fernades proved in his 10 minute cameo why Mata and Lingard could soon become obsolete.
