LB: Alex Sandro

I didn’t expect Alex Sandro to play over the weekend with this match on the horizon, but it might have actually been a good thing that he got the start. He played well on both ends of the field and that will hopefully help bring the best out of him against Lyon. There’s never any question about whether he’s going to start a match like this because he is the clear best left back available for Juventus. Hopefully he demonstrates that on Wednesday.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Leonardo Bonucci is going to get the start for this match. His suspension gave him the chance to rest on Saturday and he has played consistently well throughout the year. He’ll have a big role in this match as Juve tries to slow down Lyon’s attack.

CB: Matthijs de Ligt

This was the most difficult prediction to make for this match. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Maurizio Sarri start Giorgio Chiellini because this is an important match. However, I think he’ll instead choose to play it safe and start Matthijs de Ligt. It might be too early to risk Chiellini’s health and I think Sarri will be confident knowing he has the stronger side regardless of which center back he starts and has the return leg in Torino to fall back on if this doesn’t work out. I’d love to be able to see Chiellini continue his return in a match of this magnitude, but I just think it’s smarter to play it safe and make sure Chiellini will continue to be available. It’s not like starting Matthijs de Ligt should give fans any reason to worry anyway.

RB: Danilo

Danilo got his starting job back by default, but he has actually started to play a bit better now that he’s healthy and seeing more consistent minutes. I still believe that this is the weakest spot in Juve’s squad, but if Danilo can continue to pick up his game then it will make Juve a very tough team to beat. Let’s see if he can keep it up on Saturday.
