Tottenham Hotspur player ratings from 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig
By Tushar Bahl
Japhet Tanganga (5.5/10)
It was a difficult night for the young centre back who was making his UEFA Champions League debut. Tanganga was beaten to the ball too easily by Marcel Sabitzer for the second goal. Things did not get any better for him after that, thanks in part to the lack of defensive cover provided by Serge Aurier on the right side of Spurs’ defence.
Despite his team’s woes, he showed more fight than his more experienced teammates, and is without a doubt one of the few positives Tottenham fans can take from this season.
Eric Dier (5/10)
Playing Dier in the middle of Tottenham’s back three was an interesting choice by Jose Mourinho, and it’s fair to say that it didn’t pay off. Dier often struggled to cope with the pace of Timo Werner and Patrik Schick.
The England international made a couple of important interceptions, but also made some sloppy and careless errors which Leipzig failed to capitalise on. He was very lucky that Lloris was quick to react and make the save when he fired his clearance straight at Schick in the first half.
Toby Alderweireld (5/10)
He could only stand and watch as Leipzig toyed with Spurs’ defence in the first half. Despite his experience and ability, Alderweireld’s decision-making was questionable on a few occasions. And his lack of pace often allowed Leipzig to go in behind the Tottenham defence. The Belgian spent a lot of time chasing shadows, and his trademark long-balls did not work out as well as he would have liked either.
