Barcelona has been waiting for a response from Arsenal for a long time…

On-field football action may be cancelled until the end of April, but it’s not stopping Barcelona and Arsenal from being in contact. It’s thought that the two clubs have finally made progress in the deal which could bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Camp Nou.

According to Sport, Arsenal has put a £50m price tag on Aubameyang if Barcelona wants to sign him. Yes, you did read that right and no, it wasn’t a typo. Arsenal is literally asking for only £50m, for the best player they’ve had in a long time.

I mean, can you really say it’s a surprise? Arsenal has been known to not only buy excellent players for cheap but also let go of their own star players for cheap. Especially to the big clubs too; I really don’t know why Arsenal continue to let themselves be bullied.

I mean, it’s not like Aubameyang is yearning to be sold, is it? It’s not like he’s running down his contract either since his current deal runs out in the summer of 2021. Aubameyang has actually spoken highly of Arsenal and it was just a few days ago that Mikel Arteta reassured supporters he wouldn’t leave.

So, part of me doesn’t want to buy this story. However, the same part of me also wouldn’t be surprised if it were true. After all, Sport is a more credible source than the Daily Star (who reported the Gunners won’t sell Aubameyang).

It just seems like a strange thing to do, that’s all. Aubameyang is by far and away Arsenal’s best and most important player, alongside Bernd Leno. He may be in his 30s now but he is still scoring goals for fun and he is showing no signs of ageing.

Aubameyang is a very fast player and there are similarities in his play to Thierry Henry. He primarily plays out wide nowadays but he is able to stretch defences and make the infield runs behind the opposing men. He has quick-thinking which enables him to do exactly that and plenty of aplomb which allows him to make the most of one-on-one situations.

So, I guess to conclude, there is no reason for the Arsenal officials to make such a bold decision. If the offer of £50m were to come in which, by the way, it almost definitely will, then Arsenal must decline it. They made a stupid decision and the fans have every right to question this tiny fee in comparison to what Aubameyang can offer.
