Federico Bernardeschi

It might seem odd for me to advocate for the sale of Federico Bernardeschi just a couple of months after I was adamant that Juventus shouldn’t swap him for Ivan Rakitic, but the situation has changed over those couple of months. Now it looks like a no-brainer for Juve to sell Bernardeschi this summer.

The first reason is that now we aren’t looking at him being swapped for an aging midfielder that doesn’t really solve any of his problems. The truth is most of my reservations about Bernardeschi’s sale in January were more related to what Juve was getting in return than any actual problem with his sale.

The second reason is that the experiment with him as a mezzala never really turned into much. A strong first performance in the role turned out to just be false hope that he may have finally found where he fits for this club. It didn’t take long to figure out that he wasn’t going to turn things around.

Now, Juventus should be looking for alternate destinations where he can try to revive what was once such a promising career. He should still have plenty of good years left if he goes to a club that can offer him regular playing time in a set role like he had during his time at Fiorentina.

Bernardeschi’s potential should still garner a decent transfer fee and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a suitor for him. Bernardeschi needs a fresh start and now is the time for Juventus to give it to him.
