David Beckham knows he needs to improve Inter Miami and is eyeing some LaLiga players as possible reinforcements.
The hope heading into the MLS season was that Inter Miami would get off to a strong start considering the numerous hoops David Beckham had to jump to get the franchise off the ground. Unfortunately for Beckham and Inter Miami fans, that wasn’t the case.
Before the league came to a halt, the team had played two matches and won neither of them. If and when the season resumes, they’ll be in second to last place with zero points. What became apparent even after only two matches is that the roster isn’t good enough.
Being an expansion team is difficult as you have to piece your team together with the players from other teams. Their big marquee signing, Rodolfo Pizarro, can’t do everything himself.

In that aspect, it should come as no surprise that Beckham is still looking to improve his side and has looked to Spain and LaLiga for reinforcements. According to Sport, Barcelona’s Arturo Vidal is a player they are said to be interested in. Beckham believes Vidal would add a physical and energetic presence in midfield.
Though the signing would be a difficult one as Vidal’s preference seems to be Inter Milan. He’s unlikely to want to move to MLS at the moment. Another obstacle may be what he can pay for him.
The way transfers work in MLS is more complex and they may not be able to offer Barcelona enough to convince them to sell or pay the wages Vidal would command.
Another name, according to Diario AS, is that of Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa. AS report that Beckham even had a conversation with Costa to convince him to come to MLS. But the coronavirus pandemic put a stop to that.
Out of these two names, Costa seems like a more feasible option. Vidal still has a market in Europe and likely believes he has a couple of years left of playing at the highest level. It’s why he wants to leave Barcelona because he’s not playing enough.
Costa’s return to Atletico Madrid hasn’t been the reunion he would have hoped. He’s struggled for goals and fitness since he returned. He had been sidelined with a back injury and only recently returned.
At 31, he knows he doesn’t have much time left where he would be considered a starter. Alvaro Morata and Joao Felix are younger and will likely be the duo Diego Simeone opts for. Costa would likely be a starter should he join Inter Miami.
Given his time at Atletico and Chelsea, he would be a more recognizable name for fans of MLS and Inter Miami. The only thing certain is that David Beckham needs to improve his team and has chosen LaLiga as the place to start his search.
