Manchester United hold the key for Dortmund’s summer spending
Dortmund have agreed to sign Thomas Meunier and Jude Bellingham thus far.
After spending around 25 million Euros on Jude Bellingham, Borussia Dortmund have no plans to recruit further as the German club have tightened the purse string, owing to the financial toll suffered due to COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s understood that Die Borussen have incurred a loss of around 45 million Euros due to the lack of match revenue and other financial commitments associated with the club.
To tackle the economic puzzle, the BVB chiefs have made calculated moves in the transfer market, signing Thomas Meunier on a Bosman deal when the Belgian’s contract expired at Paris Saint-Germain. The right-back comes as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi- who left for Inter Milan seeking a fresh challenge.

Die Schwarzgelben have managed a major coup in signing English wonderkid Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City, trumping the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich in the process.
Now, after adding to players to Lucien Favre’s squad, Borussia Dortmund have already executed their transfer plans ahead of the next season, as per German outlet Kicker.
As things stand, Dortmund will enter the transfer market should they sell Jadon Sancho for a fee in the north of the €100 million mark. Currently, as Kicker suggest, Manchester United are favourites to land the English attacker.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considers Jadon Sancho as one of the most vital figures in the rebuild of Manchester United.
With a visible shift in financial dynamics across European football due to the pandemic, it would be interesting to see how Manchester United plan to spend on Sancho in this economic climate. According to reports emerging from England, Man United bosses are planning to include performance-related add-ons to reduce the upfront amount.
Manchester United seeking Jadon Sancho alternatives
Given the financial uncertainty circling the football circuit, Manchester United are keeping their options open for strengthening the right side of their attack. Recently, media outlets have linked Solskjaer’s side with multiple attacking players.
Previously, as we reported, AS Roma’s Cengiz Under was considered to be on United’s radar to reinforce their forward line. Also, Fiorentina’s Frederico Chiesa was deemed ‘close‘ to a move to Old Trafford this summer.
In addition, Manchester United are reportedly tracking the Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri, who plays under former Red Devils striker Diego Forlan at Penarol.
Despite reports of United’s interest in multiple wide attackers, Jadon Sancho, still, remains the priority target ahead of the summer transfer window. Also, Solskjaer’s transfer committee draws top-three candidates for every position for which the club are planning to recruit, thus justifying numerous links.
Now, Borussia Dortmund, who are keen to let go of Jadon Sancho this summer, have placed their desire of attaining a transfer fee in the region of 120 million Euros.
However, to gain clarity on their financial picture and potential recruitment, the German club have placed an ultimatum for Man United to bid for Jadon Sancho before August 10, as per Bundesliga expert Christian Falk.
