German players have often accounted for some really mammoth transfer fees, but these are the five most expensive of all-time, including the latest acquisitions of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

#5 Leroy Sane – €45 million (Manchester City to Bayern Munich, 2020)

The return of the prodigal son, Sane’s much-awaited move to Bayern Munich, finally came to fruition in July after the winger renounced an extension of his contract with Manchester City.

The deal was valued at €45 million (with add-ons rising to a potential €60 million), making him the fifth most expensive German player, trumping Julian Draxler.

A highly talented youngster with an eye for a pass and excellent finishing skills, Sane scored 39 goals and made 45 assists in 135 games for the Skyblues in all competitions.

Given his versatility and expansive skill set, he’s a valuable addition to Bayern, and the prospect of him link-up with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry, Alphonso Davies, etc. would spell doom for opposite teams.
