After a crazy weekend of football, which included Real Madrid beating Atletico in the Madrid Derby, Celtic’s impressive domestic winning streak coming to an end against St. Mirren, and Tottenham thrashing Leicester 6-2, club football will now go on hiatus for the International break.

During this international football window, UEFA will have its final fixtures of the Nations League. Some countries will have three matches during this window, while others will play two.

One UEFA Nations League group that will go down to the wire is “League B, Group 1” which features Ukraine, Scotland, Ireland and Armenia. Ukraine currently leads the group with seven points from three matches with  Scotland one point behind them with the same amount of matches played. Both Ireland and Armenia have played four matches and Ireland has four points while Armenia has three.

These counties have submitted their squads this past week, but injuries have caused them to adjust their squads and add/drop players.

Ireland has called in Liam Scales into their squad for this international break

Ireland announced today that Andrew Omobamidele has suffered a groin injury in Norwich’s 1-1 draw and Liam Scales will replace him in the squad.

This is a great chance for Scales who is currently on loan from Celtic with Aberdeen. The now 24-year-old has had a great rise at Aberdeen. He began his career with UCD before moving to Shamrock Rovers. After impressing with Rovers, he made a move to Celtic. Then during this last transfer window, he was sent on loan to Aberdeen.

Scales has done well with Aberdeen and his call-up to the national team is much deserved. This season, Scales has played in 11 matches for Aberdeen and has one assist.

The Dublin native is also looking to make his senior international debut during this break. He has appeared for Ireland at both the under-21 and under-18levels. He was an unused substitute in Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Serbia last year in World Cup qualification.

Ireland will face off against Scotland on Saturday, Sept. 24, before closing out the Nations League on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they host Armenia.
