Arsenal have won each of their last six meetings with Leeds, unbeaten in 14 overall. Leeds' most-recent victory over the Gunners came in May 2003, the final game before Arsenal's famous 49 match unbeaten run.

Arsenal vs Leeds United preview

After an underwhelming but ultimately victorious start to the season, Arsenal supporters will be hoping to see their side produce better in this home opener. Last Sunday, the Gunners battled to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Riccardo Calafiori was the afternoon's only scorer. nodding home from mere picometres out, this the first of many set-piece goals this season one would have to assume.

This came after just 13 minutes and, from there on out, Man United were the better team, but unable to find an equaliser, thanks, in no small part, to a pair of sublime saves by man of the match David Raya. Last season, one of Mikel Arteta's many issues throughout was his team's inability to retain leads. Of the 18 Premier League fixtures Arsenal failed to win, they went in front in ten of them, getting away with a similar fate last Sunday. So, ahead of next Sunday's mouthwatering trip to champions Liverpool, Gooners everywhere are hoping to see a resounding win on Saturday evening.

Leeds United meantime announced their return to the Premier League with a 1-0 win of their own on Monday night. At a raucous Elland Road, Daniel Farke's team dominated the first half against Everton, without having the cutting edge to break the deadlock. So, just when the home crowd were slowly giving up hope of a victory, with six minutes to go, Leeds were awarded a penalty, one that was cooly tucked away by debutant Lukas Nmecha, sparking wild scenes of celebration.

When they were last in the Premier League, the Whites picked up seven points from their opening three matches, but then enjoyed just a further five victories all season, ending the campaign with Sam Allardyce in charge. This time round, Farke's side do appear better equipped to compete, albeit this'll be a serious test, so can Leeds cause a massive surprise in North London?

Arsenal team news

On Wednesday, it was reported that Kai Havertz has suffered a knee injury, the severity of which is currently unknown, but this is a big early blow for Mikel Arteta's plans.

There were debuts at Old Trafford for new signings Martín Zubimendi and Viktor Gyökeres, while Noni Madueke did so off the bench. Arteta isn't expected to tinker too much, although the biggest decisions he has to make come at full-back; Benjamin White and scorer Riccardo Calafiori got the nod against Manchester United, but Jurriën Timber or Myles Lewis-Skelly could return this time.

Lastly, Arsenal supporters certainly enjoyed the new that broke on Wednesday, namely that the club have gone in at the last minute to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, snatching a player who was on his way to Spurs no less, so will he be in attendance at this one?

Arsenal predicted lineup vs Leeds United: (4-3-3): Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Rice, Ødegaard; Saka, Martinelli, Gyökeres.

Captain Ethan Ampadu was forced off on Monday, but is expected to be fit in time for this one, while last season's top scorer Joël Piroe will continue to lead the line, even though new recruit Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now available and awaiting his Leeds bow.

Leeds United predicted lineup vs Arsenal: (4-3-3): Perri; Bogle, Struijk, Rodon, Gudmundsson; Tanaka, Ampadu, Stach; James, Gnonto, Piroe.

17 of Wilfried Gnonto's 43 EFL Championship appearances last season came as a substitute, but the young Italian was entrusted to start against Everton, so could he be an attacking difference maker here?
