Miami FC has signed veteran goalkeeper Bill Hamid, a former MLS standout and ex-USMNT player. Having spent time with D.C. United and Memphis 901 FC, Hamid now takes on the challenge of bringing his experience to the Florida club in the USL Championship.

D.C. United career and MLS success
Hamid went on to begin his professional career with D.C. United in 2009, signing a pro contract and becoming the first academy player in club history to do so. The following year, he made his MLS debut and became the youngest goalkeeper in league history to win a match.
Over nine seasons with D.C. United, he has played in 297 official matches, recording 95 shutouts. In the 2012 season, he made 88 saves, among the most busy goalkeepers in the league. Consistent and shot-stopping, he won MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014, the highlight of his time in Washington.
His most memorable moment probably came in 2013 when he helped D.C. United win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. During the final against Real Salt Lake, Hamid was instrumental, keeping a clean sheet and getting the Man of the Match award.
European experience and return to U.S. Soccer
Hamid then made an overseas move in 2018 as he penned a deal with Denmark-based FC Midtjylland. That was short-lived since he returned to D.C. United. Memphis 901 FC would be the club that saw his final service from D.C. United, as he later ended up with Miami FC.
At his new club, Hamid is expected to firm up the defense and bring in some leadership between the posts. After the announcement, he expressed his excitement about the project:
"I would like to start by thanking the club's owners, staff, and coaches for believing in me. I'm looking forward to helping and working with the team so we can achieve these big goals together. This club has ambition, they want to win, and I'm ready to give everything I've got."
USMNT experience
Outside of his club career, Hamid has represented the U.S. Men's National Team. A regular call-up since youth, Hamid made his full-side senior debut in 2012 in a 1-0 victory against Venezuela, which he kept clean.
He was in the squads that won the 2013 and 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cups, adding to an already envious résumé of international experience. Even if he has not always been the first pick every time for his country, time with the national team continued to build his reputation as a reliable and experienced goalkeeper.
A Family name making waves in Florida soccer
Bill Hamid is not the only one in his family making waves in Florida's soccer scene. His younger sister, Jasmine Hamid, is also on the rise through the professional ranks. A forward with Fort Lauderdale United in the USL Super League, she's already making a name for herself, tallying 4 goals and 2 assists while earning USL Super League Player of the Month honors in December.
