Borussia Dortmund will take on Mexican opposition for the very first time. This'll be the first time Monterrey have taken on a German outfit, yet to win in three attempts against European clubs, losing to Chelsea in 2012 and Liverpool in 2019, before holding Inter to draw ealier this summer.
Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey preview
Borussia Dortmund are certainly the favourites, but the vast majority inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Tuesday will be there to support Monterrey, so who will book their place in the quarter-finals?
So far at this Club World Cup, Borussia Dortmund have yet to be significantly challenged, thereby comfortably topping Group F. After a goalless draw with Fluminense, Niko Kovač's side beat Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in a thriller in Ohio, leading 4-1 at one stage, only for two late goals from the South African side to set up a grand-stand finish. Then, last time out, Daniel Svensson was the only scorer as die Schwarzgelben swatted aside Ulsan HD in Cincinnati, secured top spot in their section.
Having concluded the Bundesliga season with seven wins out of eight, their sole dropped points coming away at Bayern Munich, Dortmund travelled stateside confident of a deep run, albeit not touted to be amongst the favourites. They were Intercontinental Cup winners back in 1997, defeating Cruzeiro 2-0 in Tokyo, so can Dortmund keep alive their hopes of a second global crown?
As for Monterrey, they too remain unbeaten this summer so far, upsetting the odds to get through the group stages. Sergio Ramos' trademark towering header helped them hold Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw in their opener, before Rayados battled to a hard-fought goalless draw with River Plater in Pasadena. Nevertheless, Domènec Torrent's team still required a win to conclude the group stages to stand any chance of progressing and, well, they achieved just that, and in some style.
On Wednesday night, Monterrey demolished Urawa Red Diamonds 4-0 at the Rose Bowl, thanks largely to a first half scoring spree, netting three times in the space of just nine minutes. Nelson Deossa and Tecatito Corona both scored spectacular long-range strikes, they are well worth seeking out, while Germán Berterame also bagged a brace. Rayados have somewhat dominated the CONCACAF region in recent times, winning the Champions Cup on five occasions since 2011, but are now showing what they can do on a global scale. So, can Monterrey upset the odds in Georgia on Tuesday night, or will Borussia Dortmund be too strong? Either Real Madrid or Juventus await the winners at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund team news
Niko Kovač has somewhat rotated his team throughout the group stages, so it'll be interesting to see who he goes for here. Firstly, Nico Schlotterbeck, Emre Can and Salih Özcan do all remain injured.
Meantime, new signing Jobe Bellingham did not start Dortmund's opener against Fluminense, but has been in the lineup for the two subsequent matches, impressing to such an extent that he'll certainly be in the XI here too. After some changes against Ulsan HD, Niklas Süle will return to the back line, with Karim Adeyemi getting the nod over Julian Brandt and others as part of the front three.
Yan Couto, Ramy Bensebaïni, Carney Chukwuemeka, Maximilian Beier, Felix Nmecha and Bellingham would all miss a potential all-European quarter-final clash if booked in Atalanta.
Borussia Dortmund predicted lineup vs Monterrey: (3-4-3): Kobel; Süle, Anton, Bensebaïni; Ryerson, Nmecha, Groß, Svensson; Bellingham, Adeyemi, Guirassy.
Borussia Dortmund player to watch vs Monterrey
Serhou Guirassy's goal against Mamelodi Sundowns in Cincinnati was his 35th goal of the season, not a bad return for his campaign at the club, so can he fire them to victory here?
Monterrey team news
Defensive midfielder Jorge Rodríguez can return, having served his one-match suspension against Urawa Red Diamonds, likely to displace Fidel Ambríz. Tecatito Corono's stupendous strike at the Rose Bowl last Wednesday could see him start a third successive match, chosen over Lucas Ocampos.
Monterrey predicted lineup vs Borussia Dortmund: (4-3-3): Andrada; Chávez, Medina, Sergio Ramos, Arteaga; Rodríguez, Deossa, Canales; Corona, Alvarado, Berterame.
