Bayern Munich have won all three previous meetings with South American opposition, defeating Cruzeiro in 1976 and Boca Juniors in 2001 at the Intercontinental Cup, before beating Boca again this summer.

Flamengo meantime have won two of three encounters with European clubs to date, including picking up the Intercontinental Cup in 1981, albeit all of these have come against English sides.

Flamengo vs Bayern Munich preview

Hard Rock Stadium will be, well, rocking for this Club World Cup last 16 tie on Sunday, so who will prevail? Flamengo were pretty much flawless during the group stages of this tournament, the only team to rubber stamp top spot in any group with a game to spare. First, Filipe Luís's side swatted aside Espérance Sportive de Tunis 2-0 before, four days later, coming from a goal down to beat Chelsea 3-1 in Philadelphia. Quick-fire goals from Bruno Henrique and then Danilo just after the hour mark turned the game on its head, before Wallace Yan secured the victory later on.

As a result, the Rubro-Negro's final group game against LAFC on Tuesday was a complete dead-rubber, but they still earned a 1-1 draw, conceding six minutes from time, only for Wallace Yan again to salvage a draw straight from kick off in Orlando. So, having already beaten one European juggernaut during the group stages, can Flamengo eliminate another in South Florida on Sunday?

As for Bayern Munich, they were forced to settle for second place in Group C, but still come into this encounter as heavy favourites. Vincent Kompany's team began their summer by demolishing Auckland City 10-0 in Cincinnati, before a much more hard-fought 2-1 victory over Boca Juniors, in which Harry Kane broke the deadlock, before Michael Olise curled home a dramatic late winner.

Thus, the Bundesliga champions required just a point in North Carolina on Tuesday to rubber stamp first place, but didn't get it; facing Benfica for the 14th time in their history, Bayern were beaten by the Portuguese side for the very first time, losing 1-0 in Charlotte, unable to respond to an early goal. This has seen die Roten end up on the significantly more daunting side of the draw, with only one of themselves, PSG, Real Madrid, Juventus or Borussia Dortmund able to reach the final.

Either Paris Saint-Germain or Inter Miami await the winners of this tie in Atlanta next Saturday, so will Bayern flex their muscles, or will the Flamengo fairytale continue in Miami Gardens?

Flamengo team news

With top spot already guaranteed, Filipe Luís made seven changes to his lineup against LAFC on Tuesday, choosing to rest a few key figures. Wesley and Jorginho are amonst those who will return to the lineup, while Ayrton Lucas could keep his place at left-back, chosen over Alex Sandro.

Flamengo predicted lineup vs Bayern Munich: (4-5-3): Rossi; Wesley, Danilo, Léo Pereira, Ayrton Lucas; Jorginho, Pulgar, de Arrascaeta, Wallace Yan, Luiz Araújo; Plata.

Jorginho has been outstanding since being dropped into this team's midfield ahead of this tournament, having only just arrived from Arsenal, so will be key to Flamengo's success here.

Bayern Munich team news

Vincent Kompany remains without Kim Min-jae, Hiroki Itō and Alphonso Davies due to injury, while Jamal Musiala is a doubt, having hobbled off against Boca Juniours, albeit he was fit enough to be on the bench against Benfica, which is an encouraging sign.

Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Michael Olise, Kingsley Coman and Harry Kane were all left in reserve against Benfica, but will all return to the lineup this time.

Bayern Munich predicted lineup vs Flamengo: (4-3-3): Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Goretzka, Olise, Müller, Coman; Kane.

Harry Kane, remarkably, didn't bag any of the ten against Auckland City, but did open the scoring against Boca four days later. The Englishman has scored against 101 clubs in his senior career, so can he add Flamengo to this list?

Flamengo vs Bayern Munich prediction

As alluded to earlier, we are backing Bayern Munich for victory in Miami, although it will be close, with the vast majority of those in attendance supporting Flamengo: Flamengo 1-2 Bayern Munich.
