Fluminense have won their sole previous meeting with Asian opposition, set to take on a team from Saudi Arabia for the very first time.

As for Al-Hilal, they've won one and lost one against Brazilian clubs, beaten 3-1 by Flamengo in Doha in 2019, before defeating the same opposition 3-2 in Ṭangier in February 2023.

Fluminense vs Al-Hilal preview

After both caused massive upsets in the round of 16 on Monday, what a great opportunity for both to reach the Club World Cup semi-finals. Fair to say, Al-Hilal have surprised most onlookers at this tournament, notably holding Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in their opener in Miami. Then, after an uninspiring goalless draw with RB Salzburg, goals from Salem Al-Dawsari and Marcos Leonardo in Tennessee saw the Blue Waves beat Pachuca 2-0, thereby booking their place in the round of 16.

Nevertheless, despite these commendable results, no one gave Simone Inzaghi's side a prayer against Manchester City late on Monday night, this especially the case when the Citizens broke the deadlock inside nine minutes. However, Al-Hilal came roaring out of the blocks after the interval, Leonardo and then Malcom scoring just six minutes apart, turning the tie on its head, only for Håland to equalise straight away, meaning extra time was required. Well, it was an eventful extra half hour; Kalidou Koulibaly's towering header had the Saudi side back in front, Foden equalised but then, with seven minutes to play, Leonardo snatched the 4-3 victory, completing a famous upset in Florida. So now, can the record, 19-times champions of Saudi Arabia keep their Club World Cup dreams alive?

Meantime, this tie at Camping World Stadium was expected to be Man City taking on Inter Milan but, just a few hours before Al-Hilal's upset, Fluminense caused a shock of their own. In Monday's early kick off, the Fluzão defeated Internazionale 2-0 in North Carolina, a result few saw coming. Germán Cano broke the deadlock inside three minutes, before Hércules slotted home the clincher in the third minute of injury time, sparking wild celebrations from the traveling Tricolor supporters.

Renato Gaúcho's side were generally uninspiring in the group stages. Flu drew 0-0 with both Borussia Dortmund and Mamelodi Sundowns, while also needing to fight back from a goal down to defeat Ulsan HD 4-2 in East Rutherford. Fluminense currently sit sixth in the Brasileirão, having finished 13th last season, but are now 90 minutes away from the Club World Cup semi-finals. So, who will prevail in Orlando, with either Palmeiras or Chelsea awaiting the winner in New Jersey on Tuesday?

Fluminense team news

Left-back Renê is suspended, having been booked against Inter on Monday, so Gabriel Fuentes will deputise. Renato Gaúcho actually switched to a back three in North Carolina, matching their opponent's formation, so will he revert to a flat back four this time?

Fluminense predicted lineup vs Al-Hilal: (4-3-3): Fábio; Xavier, Thiago Silva, Freytes, Fuentes; Martinelli, Hércules, Nonato; Arias, Serna, Cano.

Fluminense player to watch vs Al-Hilal

Germán Cano broke the deadlock in the round of 16 victory, his 15th goal of 2025 already, so will continue to be Fluminense's main man for goals at Camping World Stadium.

Al-Hilal team news

Simone Inzaghi name an unchanged lineup for all three group games, but was forced into two changes for the extraordinary victory over Manchester City.

Captain Salem Al-Dawsari missed out due to injury, so Mohamed Kanno came into midfield, donning the armband, while centre-back Hassan Al-Tambakti has suffered a knee issue, hence why Moteb Al-Harbi got the nod at the back.

Lastly, in attack, star striker Aleksandar Mitrović is yet to feature at the Club World Cup due to a hamstring injury, but Marco Leonardo has been a pretty good deputy, scoring against Pachuca and then twice in the round of 16 on Monday, including the extra time winner from mere picometres out.

Al-Hilal predicted lineup vs Fluminense: (4-3-3): Bounou; Cancelo, Koulibaly, Al-Harbi, Lodi; Neves, Milinković-Savić, Kanno; Malcom, N Al-Dawsari, Leonardo.

Al-Hilal player to watch vs Fluminense

Rúben Neves, who converted the penalty against Real Madrid, has been the star of show in Al-Hilal blue, so will once again be key as they seek to win the midfield battle.

Fluminense vs Al-Hilal prediction

No one expected either of these two teams to reach the quarter-finals, making this tie extremely tough to call, but we do give the slight edge to Al-Hilal in Florida: Fluminense 1-2 Al-Hilal.
