Spain have won each of their last six encounters with Georgia, scoring 22 goals. The Crusaders' sole victory over la Roja came in a friendly at the Coliseum in Madrid in June 2016.

Georgia vs Spain preview

Can Spain continue their perfect record in World Cup qualification? So far, Luis de la Fuente's team have won all four matches in Group E, scoring 15 goals and conceding zero. In September, they scoring nine unanswered goals on the road in Bulgaria and Türkiye, before beating Georgia 2-0 in Elche and then Bulgaria 4-0 in Valladolid last month.

Despite this, la Roja have not yet qualified for next summer's finals. They are three points clear of second-placed Türkiye, who will visit the Cartuja on Tuesday, with a goal difference that is 12 superior, so a win here would all but mathematically rubber stamp first place. Hoping for Bulgaria to do them a favour in Bursa simultaneously, will the European champions' winning streak continue?

Georgia meantime have never featured at a World Cup as an independent nation, a fact that will not be changing next years. Willy Sagnol's side were always likely to be battling Türkiye for a place in the play-offs, but have lost both of their head-to-head encounters, defeated 3-2 in Tbilisi back on matchday one, before a 4-1 drubbing in İzmit last time out.

Despite this, the Crusaders are an improving force. They retained their UEFA Nations League B status earlier this year, annihilating Armenia 9-1 on aggregate, having made their major tournament debut at Euro 2024, reaching the round of 16, before their adventure was brought to an end by Spain. On home soil, Georgia have lost only three of their last 15 competitive matches, beaten only by Türkiye, Albania and Spain themselves since October 2021, so will be no push-overs. Thus, can they claim the scalp of the European champions at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena on Saturday night?

Georgia team news

Willy Sagnol is without midfielder Giorgi Kochorashvili, who is suspended due to yellow card accumulation, while centre-back Otar Kakabadze and star striker Georges Mikautadze are injured, the latter a massive blow.

Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been playing a lot more regularly at Liverpool than anyone would've forecast, and should be prepared for a busy evening here. Budu Zivzivadze is likely to lead the line in the aforementioned absence of Mikautadze.

Georgia predicted lineup vs Spain: (4-3-3): Mamardashvili; Gocholeishvili, Goglichidze, Lochoshvili, Kashia; Mekvabishvili, Kiteishvili, Mamuchashvili; Davitashvili, Zivzivadze, Kvaratskhelia.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia remains Georgia's talisman. Of the PSG forward's 20 international goals, two have come against Spain, so can he repear the feat in Tbilisi?

Spain team news

Luis de la Fuente is without star attacker Lamine Yamal due to a groin injury, while Dani Carvajal, Robin Le Normand, Pedri, Rodri, Gavi, Nico Williams and Álvaro Morata are also not part of the squad.

Unai Simón will continue to don the gloves, despite David Raya's excellent form for Arsenal, with fit again Dean Huijsen returning to partner Aymeric Laporte at the heart of defence.

In attack, Samu Aghehowa started a senior international for the first time against Bulgaria, with Ferran Torres and Mikel Oyarzabal the alternative options to lead the line.

Spain predicted lineup vs Georgia: (4-3-3): Simón; Poro, Huijsen, Laporte, Cucurella; Zubimendi, Fabián, Merino; Torres, Oyarzabal, Dani Olmo.

Mikel Merino has been on fire in World Cup qualifying, scoring six times already, meaning only Memphis ad Erling Braut Håland have more across Europe, so will his scoring spree continue?
