Greece have only beaten Denmark once in ten attempts since 1980, albeit this will be the first encounter between the pair since a friendly in Piraeus in February 2009 that finished 1-1.
Greece vs Denmark preview
These two nations can both lay claim to being the most unlikely European Championship winners of all time, with Denmark upsetting the odds to claim the Henri Delaunay Trophy in 1992, before Greece did so 12 years later. Now, both are seeking to reach next summer's World Cup in North America.
Denmark have been major tournament regulars in recent times, appearing at five of the last seven World Cups, aiming to qualify for three in a row for the first time ever. On Friday night though, de Rød-Hvide endured an underwhelming start to this campaign, held to a goalless draw by a stubborn Scotland at Parken. The Danes have won ten of their last 12 competitive fixtures in Copenhagen, beaten only by Spain last November, so were disappointed not to collect all three points.
Brian Riemer's team are the top seeds in Group C, with most expecting they will finish first, thereby booking an automatic ticket to next summer's tournament. Nevertheless, Scotland as well as their opponents here will have something to say about that. So, having failed to make a winning start on Friday, more dropped points for Denmark in Piraeus might just start to sound the alarm bells.

In contrast to their visitors, Greece are desperate to end their major tournament exile. Between 2004 and 2014, they featured at two World Cups, three Euros and a Confederations Cup, by virtue of winning the Euros in Lisbon. However, in the last decade, Greece have failed to qualify for all five major tournaments, heartbreakingly beaten on penalties by Georgia in a Euro 2024 play-off final.
Since then though, there are certainly signs that Ivan Jovanović's side are an improving force. Last year, Greece won five out of six Nations League matches, memorably beating England 2-1 at Wembley. They then won promotion to League A for the very first time in March, overcoming Scotland in a play-off, actually beaten 1-0 at home, before a commanding 3-0 victory at Hampden.
On Friday night, Greece began their World Cup qualification campaign by demolishing Belarus 5-1 at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium. Konstantinos Karetsas, Vangelis Pavlidis, Tasos Bakasetas and Dimitrios Kourbelis on target prior to half time, before Christos Tzolis completed the rout. Now, if Greece are able to win this one too, there would be genuine belief that they could top Group C. So, who will win this key clash between two bona fide contenders in Piraeus on Monday night?

Greece team news
Ivan Jovanović's squad is pretty much at full strength, so could he stick with the same side that steamrollered Belarus three nights ago?

Konstantinos Tzolakis won just his fifth cap in goal, so will he continue to get the nod over Odysseas Vlachodimos? At the other end of the pitch, winger Konstantinos Karetsas is Greece's bright young hope, scoring against Scotland and Belarus already this year, so can he add to his tally in Piraeus?
Greece predicted lineup vs Denmark: (4-2-3-1): Tzolakis; Vagiannidis, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas; Kourbelis, Zafeiris, Karetsas, Bakasetas, Tzolis; Pavlidis.
Greece player to watch vs Denmark
Vangelis Pavlidis has scored 32 goals for Benfica since joining the Lisbon-based giants last summer. At international level, he has netted ten times, including bagging both goals when Greece beat England at Wembley last October, so he'll continue to be their most-likely scorer.
Denmark team news
Talisman Christian Eriksen has been left out of this squad, given that he is currently without a club, and Denmark really missed his creativity against Scotland's deep defensive block on Friday.

In terms of who will feature, Mika Biereth got the nod in attack at Parken, chosen over Rasmus Højlund, with Anders Dreyer starting in attack, following his excellent form in MLS for San Diego.
Mikkel Damsgaard will be tasked with filling Erkisen's creative void, with Joakim Mæhle chosen over Manchester United's Patrick Dorgu at left-back.
Denmark predicted lineup vs Greece: (4-3-3): Schmeichel; Kristensen, Christensen, Andersen, Mæhle; Højbjerg, Hjulmand, Damsgaard; Dreyer, Dolberg, Biereth.
Denmark player to watch vs Greece
Kasper Dolberg, who re-joined Ajax on deadline day, is the top-scorer in the squad, bagging his 12th for Denmark against Lithuania in Odense in June, so could he be the hero at Karaiskakis Stadium?
Greece vs Denmark prediction
This clash in Piraeus is so difficult to call, hence why we're not being bold and backing a low-scoring draw, one that doesn't really help either, but may be good news for Scotland.: Greece 1-1 Denmark.
