Liverpool have won three of their last four meetings with Inter, including both of their two visits to San Siro this century, their sole defeat there against the Nerazzurri coming in the European Cup semi-finals 60 years ago.
Inter's last six meetings with English clubs have produced just six goals, seeking back-to-back Champions League home wins over Premier League opposition for the first time since 2010. The Reds meantime have won five of their last six visits to Italy.
Inter Milan vs Liverpool preview
Liverpool cruised to first place in last season's league phase table, but have plenty of work to do if they're to gatecrash the top eight places this time. So far, Arne Slot's team have won three and lost two in this competition, enjoying victories over Atlético and Real Madrid at Anfield, as well as Eintracht Frankfurt on the road. However, the Reds have also been beaten by Galatasaray in İstanbul before, a fortnight ago, they were smashed 4-1 when PSV Eindhoven visited Merseyside.

This though is no one off, a mere fragment of the ongoing crisis that the Premier League champions are enduring. On Saturday night, despite leading 2-0 and then 3-2, the Reds were held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds at Elland Road, conceding twice in two minutes and then again right at the death. Overall, Liverpool have therefore won only two of their last ten league games, yielding eight points out of a possible 30, so are down in ninth. In this competition, needing to win at least two of their final three fixtures to get into the top eight, the Reds will travel to Olympique Marseille next month before hosting Qarabağ. Here, can the Reds simply stop the rot when they travel to San Siro?
As for Internazionale Milano, they made a perfect start to the league phase, winning each of their first four matches, enjoying victories over Ajax, Slavia Prague, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and then Kairat. However, that 100% record then came to an end two weeks ago, beaten 2-1 by Atlético Madrid, with the winner at the Metropolitano coming in injury time. With Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund their January opponents, things were always going to get more difficult for last year's beaten finalists.

Meantime, in Serie A, the Nerazzurri are involved in a four-way title fight, winning ten of 14 league fixtures to date, albeit they've been beaten by fellow contenders Napoli and AC Milan in recent weeks. On Saturday though, Cristian Chivu's side demolished high-flying Como 4-0; Lautaro Martínez, Marcus Thuram, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Carlos Augusto all scoring. So now, Inter are targeting a statement win and, given Liverpool's current form, the hosts have to be favourites at San Siro.

Inter Milan team news
Following that thumping win over Como, there's little reason for Cristian Chivu to change much.
Carlos Augusto's goal off the bench could see him come in at wing-back, although there is optimism that Denzel Dumfries could feature for the first time in six matches following an ankle injury.

Elsewhere, Piotr Zieliński could continue to be chosen over Petar Sučić and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the midfield trio, while weekend scorer Marcus Thuram will once again be in attack, having sat out six matches earlier in the campaign due to a left biceps femoris muscle injury.
Inter Milan predicted lineup vs Liverpool: (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Carlos Augusto, Zieliński, Çalhanoğlu, Barella, Dimarco; Thuram, Martínez.
Inter Milan player to watch vs Liverpool
Lautaro Martínez took his tally to 13 goals for the season at the weekend, including four in the Champions League, netting against 16 different opponents in the competition, including at Anfield three years ago, so will he be the difference maker here?
Liverpool team news
All the headlines following Saturday's draw with Leeds were about Mohamed Salah. Having been an unused substitute for the second time in three matches, the Egyptian asserted that he has been “thrown under the bus” by the club, believing he has been made a scapegoat, adding “someone does not want me in the club”.

Thus, it remains to be seen if Salah will be involved in Arne Slot's traveling party in Milan.
In terms of who will feature, fit again Conor Bradley is set to keep his place at right-back, while Alexis Mac Allister could come into midfield. Hugo Ekitiké's quick-fire double at Elland Road should see him keep his place in attack, chosen over Alexander Isak, who has scored only twice since arriving. The aforementioned Bradley would miss next month's trip to Stade Vélodrome if booked.
Liverpool predicted lineup vs Inter Milan: (4-3-3): Alisson; Bradley, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Wirtz, Gakpo, Ekitiké.
Liverpool player to watch vs Inter Milan
Florian Wirtz's wait for a first Liverpool goal goes on, his strike against Sunderland accredited as an own goal, but given Salah's rapid demise, his importance has grown even further.
Inter Milan vs Liverpool prediction
We are confidently backing Internazionale for victory at San Siro, likely to be simply too strong for a Liverpool side that are chaotic both on and off the pitch right now: Inter Milan 2-0 Liverpool.
