Having won at San Siro in March, Lazio are seeking back-to-back away wins over AC Milan for the first time since 2019. The Rossoneri though have won eight of their last 12 encounters with the Biancocelesti.

AC Milan vs Lazio preview

After claiming a statement victory last Sunday night, can AC Milan underline their Scudetto credentials? Six nights ago, Massimiliano Allegri's side claimed a famous Derby della Madonnina victory, beating fierce city rivals Internazionale 1-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Christian Pulisic scored the only goal of the game just nine minutes after half time, pouncing on a rebound, but goalkeeper Mike Maignan was the hero, making six saves, preventing an xG figure of 2.03, most notably denying Hakan Çalhanoğlu's spot-kick a quarter of an hour from time.

This result saw Milan leapfrog Inter, and increases the growing sense of belief that they could genuinely win the title this season. Since losing to Cremonese on the opening day, the Rossoneri remain unbeaten, winning seven of 11 fixtures, also claiming noteworthy home wins over Napoli and Roma. This leaves Il Diavolo second, two points behind Roma, with a pretty favourable sequence of fixtures on the horizon, before the current top two clash at the Olimpico in late-January. So, will Milan move top of the table, for 24 hours at least, by claiming another crucial victory here?

Last season, Milan finished eighth, meaning they have no European football, while the same can be said of seventh-place finishers Lazio, but they are not showing similar signs of significant improvement. Maurizio Sarri returned to Rome in the summer, 15 months after being sacked, but with the club operating under a transfer embargo, he is working with a limited squad.

Last time out, the Biancocelesti did beat Lecce 2-0 at Stadio Olimpico; Mattéo Guendouzi and Tijjani Noslin the scorers. Nevertheless, having lost four times already, this was only enough to see the Eagles move up to eighth; four of the five teams they've managed to beat currently sit in the bottom seven, the sole exception being Juventus. In general, this is a pretty underwhelming Lazio team, who were beaten at San Siro by Inter just 20 days ago, and a similar outcome forecast upon their return.

AC Milan vs Lazio head-to-head record

AC Milan team news

As already mentioned, Massimiliano Allegri continues to enjoy free weeks between pretty much every fixture, so little change is forecast to his lineup.

In attack, with Santiago Giménez still nursing an ankle injury, Rafael Leão is likely to once again partner Christian Pulisic, the pair chosen over Christopher Nkunku.

Fit again Pervis Estupiñán is expected to return at left-back, while the reduced schedule certainly suits Luka Modrić, who continues to be excellent since making the move to Milan from Madrid.

AC Milan predicted lineup vs Lazio: (3-5-2): Maignan; Gabbia, Tomori, Pavlović; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Rabiot, Modrić, Estupiñán; Pulisic, Leão.

AC Milan player to watch vs Lazio

Christian Pulisic continues to be Milan's main man for goals. His winner in the Derby della Madonnin was the American's seventh of the season, netting 39 times for the Rossoneri overall, looking to find the target against Lazio for the second time.

Lazio team news

Maurizio Sarri travels to Milan without Samuel Gigot, Nicolò Rovella, Danilo Cataldi, Matteo Cancellieri and Taty Castellanos, the latter in particular is a blow.

In terms of who will start, former Arsenal duo Nuno Tavares and Mattéo Guendouzi will both start, with Boulaye Dia leading the line, despite having only scored once this season so far. Lastly, Ivan Provedel is one of only two goalkeepers to have scored in the Champions League.

Lazio predicted lineup vs AC Milan: (4-3-3): Provedel; Marušić, Romagnoli, Gila, Tavares; Lazzari, Guendouzi, Bašić; Pedro, Zaccagni, Dia.

Lazio player to watch vs AC Milan

Pedro, now 38 years old, was a key figure for Lazio last season, scoring ten Serie A goals and 14 times across all competitions. Still yet to get off the mark this time round though, can the Spaniard net against Milan, as he did when the Biancocelesti won at San Siro in March?

AC Milan vs Lazio prediction

We cannot see any other outcome than a routine AC Milan victory. The Rossoneri appear much stronger than the Biancocelesti, so will surely move top of the Serie A table: AC Milan 2-0 Lazio.
