An achievement for the elite

Salah now has 20 goals in a Premier League season for a fifth time while donning the Liverpool jersey, joining an elite group of players who have managed to do such a thing: only legends of English soccer, like Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Sergio Agüero, and Harry Kane. Now, the Reds' No. 11 joins those icons, solidifying his status as one of the best forwards of the modern era.

He had previously reached the 20-goal mark previously in the seasons 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21 as well as in 2021/22.

What's really remarkable is how consistent he can be: In the three times he did not reach 20, he showed up with two 19's and an 18 in others.

Next goal: Agüero and Cole

Now, another challenge awaits him. With 178 goals, he is just six goals away from matching Sergio Agüero, the highest-scoring foreign player in Premier League history, and nine behind Andrew Cole, who sits fourth on the all-time list. Scoring at this rate, it's just a question of time before he goes up another step among the all-time greats of English soccer.

For Salah, though, it all becomes pittance in comparison to the enormity of our ambition. "Scoring goals is an amazing feeling, but my major ambition this season is to win the Premier League with Liverpool. We are on the right track, and I hope we keep it this way." His words have given an indication that despite his records, the Egyptian stands for the success of his team first.

The Golden boot race

With 21 goals this season, Salah leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, three ahead of Erling Haaland. But Manchester City's No. 9 will have the chance to strike back in their match against Arsenal. Yet, a surprise challenger emerged as Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest netted a hat trick in their surprise 7-0 win over Brighton to tie for third place in the race alongside Alexander Isak.

A fourth Golden Boot of his career in England would see Salah match Thierry Henry for the most in Premier League history. It's another individual accolade, alongside the league title, which continues to drive Liverpool's No. 11 to keep performing at such a high level this term.

Uncertain future, cemented legacy

But brilliant as he's been in the field, the big question concerning Salah right now is his future. With a contract due this summer, it's not a certainty that he'll be continuing his stay in Liverpool. This might save Rooney, Harry Kane, or all-time leading PL top scorer Alan Shearer from his benchmark as he reportedly seeks a move.

Whatever happens from now on, Salah's legacy in the Premier League is already secured. Having taken the Reds' attack to another level since he joined in 2017, he went ahead to win titles and break records. He still keeps adding goals to his score and slowly solidifying himself among the very best players this league has ever had.

If he remains at the club, nobody doubts that he can break even more records and keep on climbing the list of all-time top scorers. But one thing is certain: Mohamed Salah has already cemented his place among the immortals of the Premier League.
