Copa América 2024 to be held across 14 U.S stadiums
On Monday, South American soccer's governing body announced these exciting details. What an incredible opportunity for North American fans to see some world-class competition taking place right at home. This Thursday marks the group stage draw in Miami, with games starting on June 20th and running through July 2nd.
The tournament is about to take off, with 14 stadiums in 10 different states -- Texas, Arizona, New Jersey, California, North Carolina, Kansas, Missouri and Nevada. Taking place from June 20th through July 15th 2024, the 48th edition of this event will start in Atlanta, Georgia, and finish up down south in Miami, Florida. Is your state among those selected?
The oldest international team tournament, established back in 1916, is set to feature an expanded format this year. It'll include South American countries like Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and others as well as six teams from CONCACAF . Mexico, the United States, Panama and Jamaica have already booked their spots after competing in the Nations League while the last two positions are yet to be filled -- the Canada-Trinidad & Tobago match alongside the Costa Rica-Honduras game on 23rd March will decide it.
Thursday is the big day for the official draw of Copa América 2024's group stage in Miami. On June 20 and July 2, all teams will face off to determine who advances through each round. Following that are quarterfinals from July 4-6, semi-finals on July 9 and 10 and a third-place playoff game set for July 13.
Victor Montagliani, president of CONCACAF, shared his enthusiasm about having this tournament come to North America stating, “The exciting prospect of co-hosting Copa América 2024 with our partners at CONMEBOL, plus the variety of CONCACAF competitions we will offer over the next three years, will cement our region as the global hub of football ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.”
We can expect quite a thrilling month of international football as all eyes turn towards the United States for what looks like one not-to-be missed event.
