Liverpool's announcement
In a post on the club's social media account, Klopp said, "I will leave the club at the end of the season. I can understand that it is a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it first time, but obviously I can explain it, or at least try to explain it. I love absolutely everything about this club. I love everything about the city. I love everything about our supporters. I love the team. I love the staff. I love evertyhing."
He continued, "I am running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I think I know it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point."
"But I cannot do the job again and again and again. And, after all the years we had together, after all the time we spent together, and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you, and the least thing I owe you is the truth. And that is the truth."Jurgen Klopp
Nine seasons together
The 56-year-old took charge of Liverpool on Oct. 8, 2015, after agreeing to a 3-year contract. He was previously the coach of Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund in Germany. He managed to make a name for himself in the seven years he spent in Dortmund.
After his first year, he made the team assertive in the league and Europe. Liverpool, which played in the Champions League final in the 2017/18 season, won the Champions League in the 2018/19 season. Klopp's team also ended the 30-year long drought by winning the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.
That's why Klopp has a very special and big place in the hearts of Liverpool fans. This decision, which we can call the end of an era, was enough to make Liverpool fans sad. They have already started sharing "We will miss you" messages on X. Klopp had a contract until 2026.
