Olympiacos overcomes Asteras in Greek Super League, extends win streak
The Red and Whites delivered to remain alive in mission to secure European spots via the league

In an exhilarating clash corresponding to the 24th round of the Greek Super League, Olympiacos welcomed Asteras Tripolis at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium. The match was characterized by intensity and Olympiacos' dominance as they aimed to stay in contention for the title.
Right from the outset, Olympiacos showcased their superiority on the field, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, it was Asteras Tripolis who struck first, with Yevgeniy Yablonskiy finding the net just before halftime.
The goal sparked a response from Olympiacos early in the second half. The hosts intensified their pressure in search of an equalizer, but it didn't come until the 79th minute. Ayoub El Kaabi leveled the score from the penalty spot, restoring hope among the home fans.
Olympiacos continued to push forward in pursuit of all 3 points. In the 87th minute El Kaabi again claimed the spotlight, this time with a spectacular goal following a brilliant team play involving Daniel Podence and André Horta, with the latter providing the crucial assist.
Still a lot of work to do for the Greek giants
Despite Olympiacos' overwhelming dominance, the match ended with a narrow 2-1 scoreline in their favor. With this victory, the red-and-white team held firm in fourth place in the Greek Super League with 50 points, 5 points behind league-leading AEK Athens.
Olympiacos' next challenge will be against Panetolikos on Feb. 28, in another crucial fixture in their quest to reach the summit of the Greek league.
The club's recent success extends beyond domestic competition. Having secured a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16, they continue to make waves on the European stage. Their journey to this stage saw them overcome Ferencvaros in the playoffs, displaying their resilience and determination.
