PSG vs Bayern Munich preview

After three Champions League match days, these two clubs sit first and second in the gigantic league phase table, both with perfect records, so something has got to give in the French capital.

Last time out in this competition, Paris Saint-Germain scored seven in a Champions League match for the fifth time, obliterating Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 at the Bay Arena. Both teams saw a man sent off in the first half in North Rhine-Westphalia, after which Désiré Doué scored a quick-fire brace, while William Pacho, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha also netted as they ran riot at the BayArena. Before this, Luis Enrique's side had begun their title defence by crushing Atalanta 4-0, followed by a 2-1 victory over Barcelona, in which Gonçalo Ramos pinched all three points right at the death at Montjuïc.

Last season, les Rouge-et-Bleu landed their holy grail, demolishing Inter Milan 5-0 to claim a first-ever Champions League title, doing so in Munich of course. Domestically, as one would expect, PSG are top of Ligue 1, despite actually drawing three of their last five. They were very close to another stalemate on Saturday, only for Ramos to strike right at the death against Nice in the French capital. This though will be les Parisiens' toughest test of the campaign, so will they claim a statement win?

As for Bayern Munich, they arrive in Paris having played 15 and won 15 across all competitions this season, scoring 54 goals and shipping only ten. In the Bundesliga alone, they're already five points clear at the top, scoring 33 goals across nine fixtures, most recently swatting aside Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 on Saturday; Serge Gnabry and Nicolas Jackson the scorers at the Allianz Arena.

Meantime, in the Champions League, Vincent Kompany's hammered Club Brugge 4-0 in Bavaria on matchday three, with teenaged sensation Lennart Karl curling home the opener, before Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Jackson were also on target. Before this, Bayern scored three against Chelsea and then fired five past Pafos in Limassol. Next up in Europe, the Meisterschale holders will travel to Arsenal later this month, so they'll do well to maintain their winning streak after these two tough trips.

Paris Saint-Germain have won 11 of the last 13 Ligue 1 titles, while Bayern Munich have claimed 12 Bundesliga titles during this timeframe. Now though, will the serial French or German champions claim a statement victory at the Parc des Princes?

Meantime, in attack, Désiré Doué does remain sidelined due to a thigh injury, but Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé is back following a hamstring issue of his own, so could lead the line.

Paris Saint-Germain predicted lineup vs Bayern Munich: (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; João Neves, Vitinha, Fábian; Barcola, Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé.
