These two nations had not met since 1995 but will clash four times in 2025. In March's Nations League play-offs, Scotland claimed a statement 1-0 victory in Piraeus, only for Greece to turn it around, emphatically leaving Hampden 3-0 three days later.
Scotland vs Greece preview
Top spot in World Cup qualification Group C remains very much up for grabs, so will either collect three priceless points on Glasgow's south side? Scotland made a positive start to this campaign in September, first battling to a goalless draw with Denmark at Parken. Then, in an eerily empty ZTE Arena, Steve Clarke's side proved to be too strong for Belarus, prevailing 2-0 in Zalaegerszeg, with Ché Adams breaking the deadlock, before an own goal made the points secure.
Prior to this, the Dark Blues had won only five of 23 internationals, but have been strong in qualifiers under Clarke, winning 13 of their last 19, losing just two since October 2019. Despite this, the Tartan Army have not graced a World Cup since France '98, desperate to change that fact next summer.

After this fixture, Scotland will host Belarus on Sunday, before a decisive November double-header, travelling to Athens before Denmark will visit Hampden. There is very little to seperate the three contenders in this group, so can the Tartan Army roar their side on to a vital victory on Thursday?
As for Greece, despite featuring at South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014, a penalty shootout defeat to Costa Rica in Recife 11 years ago remains their last major tournament match, desperate to bring this exile to an end. Well, the Blue and Whites have been an improving force, gaining promotion to Nations League A for the very first time at Scotland's expense in March. Now though, their aim is to be back at a major tournament, having lost a shootout in the pouring rain in Georgia in a Euro 2024 play-off final last year, one of the most heartbreaking results in their 96 year history.

Well, Ivan Jovanović's team made a flying start to this campaign, smashing Belarus 5-1 in Piraeus; Konstantinos Karetsas, Vangelis Pavlidis, Tasos Bakasetas, Dimitrios Kourbelis and Christos Tzolis all scoring. However, three nights later, they came crashing back down to reality, swatted aside 3-0 by Denmark at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, a potentially hugely damaging result. Thus, ahead of visiting Copenhagen on Sunday, another defeat for the Greeks here could, pretty much, end their World Cup hopes. A year ago on Friday, Greece beat England 2-1 at Wembley so, having already won at Hampden 200 days ago, can they claim another vamous victory on British soil?

Scotland team news
Steve Clarke is without right-back Nathan Patterson so, having won his first caps since Seville in October 2023 due to injury last month, Aaron Hickey is expected to start, although fit again Anthony Ralston as well as Max Johnston are both options.

Elsewhere in defence, with Kieran Tierney back in the squad, it'll be interesting to see if Clarke sticks with the back four he's been deploying recently, featuring John Souttar and one other in the middle.
Further forward, despite being yet to start a Premier League match for Bournemouth, Ben Gannon-Doak is a key figure at international level, so will once again be on the wing.
Of John McGinn's 20 international goals, 14 have come at Hampden while, having opened the scoring in Zalaegerszeg last month, will Ché Adams get the nod over Lyndon Dykes in attack?
Scotland predicted lineup vs Greece: (4-3-3): Gunn; Hickey, Hanley, Souttar, Robertson; Gilmour, McTominay, Ferguson, Gannon-Doak, McGinn; Adams.
Scotland player to watch vs Greece
Scott McTominay was the only scorer in Greece in March, converting a penalty in Piraeus, bagging his 12th international goal, so will he be the hero for Scotland again?
Greece team news
The main team news surrounding Greece is the availability of star winger Konstantinos Karetsas. The 17 year old, who was exceptional at Hampden earlier this year, has been dealing with an injury lately, but started for club side Genk on Sunday, thereby forecast to be fit enough to start here too.

In goal, Konstantinos Tzolakis has started the last three internationals but, with the vastly more experienced Odysseas Vlachodimos now playing for Sevilla, he's likely to be restored.
West Ham's Konstantinos Mavropanos and Kostas Tsimikas, formerlly of Liverpool, will start in defence, while winger Christos Tzolis scored during Club Brugge's 6-0 annihilation of Rangers in the Champions League in August.
Greece predicted lineup vs Scotland: (4-3-3): Vlachodimos; Vagiannidis, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas; Kourbelis, Zafeiris, Karetsas, Bakasetas, Tzolis; Pavlidis.
Greece player to watch vs Scotland
While youngster Konstantinos Karetsas catches the eye, Vangelis Pavlidis is Greece's main goal threat. The Benfica striker bagged both during the 2-1 win over England almost exactly a year ago, netting ten times for his country to date, so will he add to that tally in Glasgow?
Scotland vs Greece prediction
We cannot seperate these two sides, so we're predicting a draw that doesn't really help anybody, apart from possibly Denmark, ahead of a huge night at Hampden: Scotland 1-1 Greece.
