Lukaku rumours are firing right now as Everton’s star is a wanted man throughout Europe.

Lukaku rumours are rife with Chelsea and United both being strongly linked with him. But the Belgian forward will reject United in favor of joining Chelsea for two reasons.

The 23-year-old striker is leading the goal-scoring chart with 21 goals in the Premier League this season. And he has recently rejected a new contract extension at the club. Naturally this has caused a bit of a stir in the footballing world with every big club being linked with him. But, there’s a couple of reasons why Chelsea are the most likely club to get him, and why reports linking him with United are absolute rubbish.

1. Champions League Football

The Everton star apparently struck a deal last season stating that he could join another club if Everton fail to qualify for the Champions League. The Belgian forward is eager to showcase his talent in the Champions League and has made it no secret that his desire is to play against the best teams in the world.

Manchester United are the most recent club to be linked with him as Jose Mourinho is an admirer. But, Lukaku will not go to United if they fail to get Champions League football. United are currently seventh in the league and right now it looks as if their only hope of getting into the Champions League is if they win the Europa League.

So, if (when) Chelsea win the League and if Costa leaves, Lukaku will most certainly join Chelsea. They can guarantee Champions League football which is what Lukaku most desires.

2. He’s a Chelsea fan and has history there

Lukaku will reject United for Chelsea as he’s a big fan of the Blues and he feels he has ‘unfinished business’ there. Lukaku, of course previously played for Chelsea before being sold to Everton for £28 million in 2013. It’s reported that he wants to go back to Stamford Bridge and prove himself.

Chelsea had a £57 million bid rejected prior to this season according to reports. Chelsea’s Head Coach Antonio Conte is eager to sign a replacement if Diego Costa leaves which is looking likely. But, even if Costa doesn’t leave,  Conte will still be eager to sign him.

Lukaku also considers Chelsea’s legendary striker Didier Drogba one of his idols and he is keen to replicate Drogba’s success at Chelsea. Drogba is set to talk to Lukaku in order to convince him to join Chelsea according to reports. Not that he would need much convincing.

If you watch the Bein Sports Premier League half-time adverts, players are asked to name their all time best possible ‘five a side’. Lukaku named four Chelsea players in his team including Drogba.

Additionally, Mourinho is the one who didn’t play him when he was at Chelsea and he was the one who sold him to Everton. So reports linking Lukaku with United is strange. Lukaku will not want to join United while Mourinho is the manager.

Lukaku was seen whispering into John Terry’s ear after Everton’s 5-0 thrashing by Chelsea earlier this season. Of course, those whispers could be anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Lukaku was telling Terry that he’ll be back at Chelsea next season.

Everton want £75m at least for him according to reports but Chelsea won’t spend more than that.

If Chelsea fail to sign Lukaku it’s been widely reported that Conte is tracking Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
