The Playing For 90 Soccer Show gets a little crazy today as I, Baxter Colburn, have the pleasure of being joined by VAVEL USA Editor, Matt Evans. Although the show focuses on MLS, NWSL and USMNT news, Matt and I have a lot of fun with a glass of red wine and chocolate and vanilla ice cream. It makes for one heck of a show, that you will not want to miss out on. Maybe we should make this a regular happening?
I kick off the show with Matt as we talk about all the happenings of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. The moves of Orlando City and New York City FC do not surprise anyone, but once those two teams made their selections, anything was possible. Matt talks about his favorite club, the Seattle Sounders and their exciting deal that allowed them to land Cristian Roldan. With Seattle having several midfielders on the later sides of their career, this move makes perfect sense for the Western Conference giants.

Aside from the usual suspects, the Portland Timbers surprised many with their choice of Nick Besler, yes he is the younger brother of USMNT and Sporting Kansas City defender, Matt Besler. With the injuries to Diego Valeri and Will Johnson, the Timbers are desperate for someone to fill the shoes of Johnson. Besler fits that role perfectly and can also star at Center Back if needed.
The 2015 NWSL Draft kicked off with the Houston Dash selecting USWNT midfielder, Morgan Brian. Now that Brian players for the Dash, many suspect her partnership with Carli Lloyd will carry over to the national team, which helps all parties involved. The Chicago Red Stars and Western New York Flash also picked up many players with their first round picks. Time will only tell though, if those moves help the respective teams.
Playoffs?!? Well, yes, we do talk about the expansion of the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs. Matt and I both offer our opinions on the matter and Matt even provides his way to early picks for who will make the playoffs in the Western Conference. One thing is certain, the West will be incredible to watch next season, especially with Sporting KC and the Houston Dynamo joining the conference.
