Read how Tottenham could benefit from selling Danny Rose

Tottenham should at least consider selling fullback Danny Rose to Manchester United

Tottenham has every reason to value Danny Rose at a very high price. The young left back has been excellent at times under manager Mauricio Pochettino and is a key member of the Spurs squad. However, Tottenham should at least consider selling Rose to Manchester United for the right price.

I realize the prospect of selling Rose to United will make many Tottenham fans brand me as an idiot immediately. I understand that the thought of letting Rose go to a Premier League rival is fraught with potential danger. Still, there’s a way that Spurs could spin it to their advantage.

Block from your mind the fact that Tottenham has already rejected United’s advances per The Mirror. If United is truly that interested in Rose, Daniel Levy should at least quote them a price.

After all, Spurs already have a perfectly suitable left back in Ben Davies. The former Swansea man and Rose have gone back and forth as Pochettino’s first choice all season long.

There also are some intriguing young left backs rumored to be available on the transfer market. Tottenham certainly couldn’t sell Rose without purchasing a new player at the position, but there’s one excellent option out there. Tottenham could move for Leicester left back Ben Chilwell to make themselves whole at the position once again.

The Mirror reports that Chilwell is a target for both Tottenham and Arsenal and can be had for a bid of somewhere around 5 million pounds.  He’s got loads of potential and could certainly serve as an understudy for Davies for the near future.

You also can’t forget that Tottenham has long been interested in Walsall left back Rico Henry. The Express reported that Spurs hoped to acquire him in the January transfer as early as December. At the very least,  he’s a prospect that Paul Mitchell and Pochettino hold a significant interest in.

Now neither of those players is anywhere near as good as Danny Rose at the moment. Don’t misinterpret this piece for a second as any sort of slight towards Rose’s talent or play this season. He’s been a very good Premier League left back.

Every player has his price though. The facts are that Rose is a part-time left back and if Levy could squeeze a large transfer fee somewhere north of 20 million pounds he’d have to consider it strongly. That kind of bid would allow Tottenham to purchase Chilwell and Henry while still making a significant profit.

It’s unlikely that United is willing to spend that much for Rose, but it’s at least a question worth asking. It would be foolish to underestimate their desperation under Louis van Gaal.

Selling Danny Rose to Manchester United is almost certainly not going to happen. My point is that there are a confluence of circumstances that could make it the right decision for Tottenham. If United is willing to pay through the nose for Rose, it’s worth sounding out.
