Manchester United should replace Louis van Gaal with Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini
Manchester United would be wise to snap up Manuel Pellegrini to be their next manager
Manchester United fans are split over the idea of who should be their next manager. Many want former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to take over for Louis van Gaal, but he doesn’t have the right personality for Old Trafford. Instead, United should bring in Manuel Pellegrini as their next boss.
After all, Pellegrini has already gone on record with the news that he’d like to stay in the Premier League per Goal.com. He wouldn’t even have to change residences if he caught on at United.
More importantly, he’s got the right temperament to take over at Old Trafford. The 62-year-old Chilean has a calm, respectful demeanor that always resonates with his players. That same personality would play well with a United fan base that is worn out with van Gaal’s arrogance.

What Manchester United need more than anything else in a new manager is a man who can steady the ship. That’s probably Pellegrini’s greatest attribute. While he isn’t a tactical genius by any stretch of the imagination, he has an uncanny ability to manage massive player egos.
That ability will be vital for the club’s next manager. Right now, even though most optimistic of United fans would admit that their squad is in need of a serious talent infusion. All signs are pointing to a big summer spending spree that’s going to inevitably bring in some large egos (and talents). While that would be disastrous for a manager like van Gaal, it’s child’s play for a leader like Pellegrini.

The former Premier League winner isn’t a long-term solution for Manchester United, but there isn’t a great long-term candidate out there at the moment. I don’t believe they can poach Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham and there isn’t another “safe” Premier League option to chase after. No, Alan Pardew and Mark Hughes should not be candidates for the Manchester United job despite their current success.
That means Ed Woodward and the rest of the management at United will be looking to find a manager who can take over for a few years, get the club back into title contention and settle things down for the next man. I can’t imagine a better multi-year caretaker manager than Manuel Pellegrini.
He’s the ideal man to put in place while they spend big on players. He’s got a sterling reputation as a player’s manager around the world that will only help Woodward attract the superstars the club so desperately needs. He can help bed them in and then turn things over to a more superior tactical manager once the talent level has risen to its proper level.

It may seem like an outlandish suggestion, but Manchester United would be wise to take a look at Manuel Pellegrini as an antidote to Louis van Gaal’s reign of arrogance.
