Tottenham received some good news this week

In the aftermath of Tottenham’s miserable loss at Manchester City, Spurs fans could use a bit of good news. Fans of the lily-whites can take comfort in the fact that Mauricio Pochettino finally received a reasonable transfer price for two of his top transfer targets.

English reports claim that Fulham will ask Spurs to pay £30 million to acquire Ryan and Steven Sessegnon in January. The latter brother would be loaned back to the Championship club for 18 months. Ryan, the more talented of the pair, would head to play for Pochettino immediately.

£30 million isn’t an insignificant transfer fee, but it’s a far cry for the £50 million Fulham were reportedly looking for a few months ago. That was their original asking price for Ryan only. When compared to the initial astronomical asking price, £30 million seems like a bargain.

In fairness, it’s a deal that Tottenham should leap to accept. They aren’t the only big club interested in Ryan Sessegnon. His dazzling play on Fulham’s left flank has drawn the eyes of quite  a few big Premier League clubs. Fortunately, he seems to be attracted to Spurs by the chance to play and develop under Pochettino.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

Many pundits believe that Tottenham’s interest in the more acclaimed brother is dependent on what happens with Danny Rose in January. Spurs’ current left back has been heavily linked with a big money move to Manchester City ever since his summer outburst criticizing the club.

I’m not entirely sure the two are so directly related. Selling Rose would necessitate Spurs purchasing a new left back. Sessegnon could be a player who would fill that role. On the other hand, Sessegnon’s attacking ability might make him better suited to play further up the pitch.

His ability to score goals makes me believe that Tottenham will pursue him regardless of what happens with Rose. Spurs could use more talent at left back and in their attacking midfield. Sessegnon’s versatility makes him a great fit at either spot.

Acquiring the Sessegnon brothers would be a terrific January coup for Spurs. Fans should hope that Fulham don’t feel the need to revisit their latest asking price. £30 million for the twins would be excellent value for Tottenham.
