Danny Rose’s time at Tottenham may be through

Tottenham don’t want to strengthen Manchester United this summer, but it’s unclear whether or not selling Danny Rose would actually do that. As a result, it’s very possible that Mauricio Pochettino and company will allow the left back to move to Old Trafford this summer.

English sources claim that Jose Mourinho would like to add Rose this summer, but needs to offload Luke Shaw first. It’s increasingly unlikely that Pochettino would sanction a swap deal to reunite with his former pupil.

Manchester United would also like to pry Toby Alderweireld away from Spurs, but that’s not a move Daniel Levy is willing to make. If Tottenham are forced to part company with their Belgian star, look for the club to work hard to ship Alderweireld out of the Premier League.

Rose’s relationship with Tottenham over the past 12 months has been tumultuous at best. The English international insists he still has a good relationship with Pochettino, but that hasn’t translated into a starting role for Rose this year. His inability to regain full fitness, coupled with Ben Davies’ improved play have been enough to keep Rose on the bench for long stretches.

More from Tottenham Hotspur

He’s only managed to start five Premier League matches on the year. His performance has been reasonably good, but it hasn’t been up to the high standards he set for himself last season. At 27 years of age, it’s very possible that Tottenham have seen the best football of Rose’s career already.

That’s why this summer could be the perfect time to offload him. In a perfect world, Spurs would prefer to ship him outside of the Premier League too. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much interest in Rose outside of his native country.

In fact, Manchester United seem to be the only club really interested in acquiring him this summer. Tottenham will do their best to incite a bidding war, but they may struggle to exert pressure on the Red Devils. A transfer bid in the neighborhood of £25 million might be enough to make the move happen this summer.

Danny Rose’s Tottenham career isn’t over yet, but it’s on life support. The chances of him moving to Manchester United this summer are certainly on the rise.
