Real Madrid player ratings vs Roma: Isco delivers a masterclass
Left Back- Marcelo- 8/10
Marcelo was visible during the attacking area in yesterday’s match. One thing which stood out and was important was his contribution while defending. The Brazilian has been caught out of position during the opposition’s attacks, but was present at the back on Wednesday night as he made sure to keep Under quite for large times during the match.
Centre Back- Sergio Ramos- 7/10
Sergio Ramos did not have much defensive duties to fulfil because of the off night that Edin Dzeko was enduring. However, the Spain and Real Madrid captain made sure to make his presence felt during the attacks and did attempt a few headed chances. Unfortunately, he could not get a goal for himself. On a lighter note, he is now the player with most yellow cards in the Champions League having overtaken Paul Scholes.
Centre Back- Raphael Varane- 7/10
Similar to his partner at the centre of defence, Raphael Varane was not required to do much of defensive work in Roma’s final third. However, the Frenchman did exchange some nice short passes with the midfielders to keep hold of possession and played an integral role as Real Madrid held a very high line against their opponents.
Right Back- Dani Carvajal- 8/10
Dani Carvajal was impressive as he did superbly to offer the Whites a balance in the attack and defence. As a full back, Carvajal completed his attacking and defensive duties duly and was important for Real Madrid who managed a clean sheet only for the second time this season in all competitions. He deserved an assist given the quality of crosses he was putting in and did the assigned task of marking Stephan El Shaarawy well.
