Usain Bolt is becoming a renowned figure in the footballing world, but whether or not he has what it takes is a different story.

I bet you never thought Usain Bolt would give football a go. After conquering the world with his sprinting ability, he is now looking to dive into football. It’s a sport he’s always shown interest in, playing in many charity matches, but football is a completely different ball game to the Olympics. Pun intended.

While many players are renowned for their sprinting ability; take Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for example, it’s not the be all or end all. Aubameyang, and many others who are renowned for their pace, but they have the ability to match. In my eyes, Bolt doesn’t. I mean, he’s better than me, obviously, but he’s not exactly going to hit the heights which his hype would suggest.

He is great for football, though.

Usain Bolt trying to make his way into the trade is a good thing for football as a whole. He is a widely known superstar, and he’s respected across the world. Jamaica has never been known for their football, so it will come as a bright spark to them seeing perhaps their biggest athlete of all time bring more recognition to the beautiful game.

Not only will it attract different cultures to football, but it will attract different fan-bases. Let’s face it, athletics fans aren’t the only fan-base who idolize Bolt. As a football fan, I’ve always admired him. It’s what football is about’ attracting a variety of different cultures and embracing the wide range of sports fans.

He’s a short distance runner, so obviously his stamina isn’t going to be the best. He also ages at 32 now, so he’s no Kylian Mbappe. It’s like Lionel Messi moving on to become a ballet dancer; he may have the footwork, but his body coordination won’t be up there. Besides, I don’t think I ever want to see Messi in a tutu.
