1) Goal! (Trilogy)

Cheating a little right off the bat with not one movie, but three soccer movies. The Goal! trilogy follows Santiago Munez, an aspiring soccer player of Mexican descent living in Los Angeles. The trilogy all follow Santiago as he gets his chance to play professionally overseas. If you are looking for movies to binge, and want tons of soccer, then the Goal! trilogy is what you are looking for!

2) Mean Machine (2001)

Mean Machine is a British adaption of an older film based on American football, The Longest Yard. Following a similar storyline as the popular film it is adapted from, a former soccer star is sent to prison where he is asked to help coach the warden’s soccer team.

He goes on to put together a team consisting of inmates to take on the guards. A comedy filled film, whether you’ve seen The Longest Yard or not this is a must-watch that holds its own.

3) Fever Pitch (1997)

Another movie that is connected to one of another sport, this though being the original and the other being the remake. Not to be confused with the baseball film of the same name, this Fever Pitch is about soccer following a very similar storyline as the baseball film.

Unlike the baseball film popular to most, about a teacher who is dealing with a newly budding relationship all while being a fanatic supporter of the Boston Red Sox, this film follows the same premise but the lead is a fanatic supporter of Arsenal F.C.

4) The Damned United (2009)

Brian Clough is now known as a renowned coach for many teams in his career. This move though follows a brief period of time that was not the brightest of his life. The Damned United is centred on the 44 days that Clough manages Leeds United in the year 1974. This drama-filled film is based on true events but the historical accuracy has been challenged. Even so, this is a much watch film for all soccer fans.

5) Escape to Victory (1981)

Ever want to see Sylvester Stalone in a soccer movie? What about one also co-starring Micheal Caine and Pelé? Well, then this is the movie to see! The movie takes place in a Nazi imprisonment camp during World War II where Caine’s character is a former professional British soccer player. The guards set up a match against the prisoners as a propaganda attempt but don’t know there is a secret plan in place by the prisoners to use the match to escape.

6) Shaolin Soccer (2001)

Looking for something a little different? Shaolin Soccer follows a monk who gets together with his former soccer teammates to play in an open soccer tournament in Hong Kong.

The catch, they all are extraordinary martial artists who use their abilities to accomplish spectacular and unnatural feats in the sport. Action and comedy packed, this movie may not be along with the same scope as many of the others but a great soccer film to watch nonetheless!
