Real Salt Lake has its eyes on Rony for 2025, and that alone has already stirred things behind the scenes at Atlético Mineiro. The possibility of an MLS offer has gained traction in recent weeks, with the American club monitoring the 29-year-old forward and evaluating whether it’s worth moving ahead with a formal bid. For Atlético, the equation is simple. They will only negotiate if they recover the amount invested to sign the No. 33.
Rony enters the MLS radar in a moment of uncertainty at Atlético
According to information from Fred Augusto, Real Salt Lake is tracking Rony and studying a permanent purchase. Atlético Mineiro paid roughly 6.5 million euros for 50 percent of his rights, while Athletico Paranaense holds 35 percent and the player himself owns the remaining 15 percent. This means any negotiation has to align the interests of everyone involved.
Rony delivered a statistically reasonable season. He scored 13 goals and added four assists in 62 matches, numbers higher than in his final year at Palmeiras, but still not enough to silence criticism from the fans, who, as we know, are already celebrating the possibility of his transfer. That alone gives a good idea of the current climate. Even with plenty of minutes, he never established himself as a unanimous choice.
Even with the strained relationship, the forward is still seen as a useful piece in the squad. He can play in multiple attacking roles, operate on either wing or as a mobile center forward, offering depth in different areas of the field. His speed, physical strength and intensity show up often, even when his technical level fluctuates. Rony is not a classic finisher, but he helps in transitions, creates space, presses high and contributes defensively, traits that matter depending on the tactical approach.
What MLS interest represents for all sides
A possible move gives Rony a chance to reset his path. Real Salt Lake, however, looks at the situation from another angle. The club needs to understand whether the price aligns with the level of impact he can actually deliver. What’s clear so far is simple. There’s interest, there’s evaluation, and nothing beyond that at this point.
A firm proposal would help Atlético Mineiro in several ways. It would end a cycle, recover part of the money invested and open room to reshape the squad for 2025.
