Proposed Manchester United-PSG swap deal would be grounds for Ed Woodward’s dismissal
Manchester United should fire Ed Woodward and have him committed to a mental institution if he sanctions this swap deal with PSG
Manchester United’s interest in acquiring PSG forward Edinson Cavani is completely understandable. Ed Woodward will certainly be in the market for a striker this summer and Cavani would be an excellent choice. However, if Woodward approves a swap deal that involves United starlet Anthony Martial in an effort to secure Cavani’s services, he should be sacked on the spot.

Reports from Italy allege that United is contemplating swapping Martial for Cavani in an effort to beat Chelsea for the Uruguayan’s signature. Sacrificing a potential future star at United to get a good, but not great, striker like Cavani would be utter madness from Manchester United’s perspective.
There are any number of potential strikers that United could sign that are of Cavani’s quality. If they’re determined to sign a big-name front man why not go after Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain? Surely United has enough money to tempt the Serie A giants into selling their hit man.
Even if United isn’t able to sign a striker on Cavani’s level, they would be better off letting Martial and Marcus Rashford continue to grow up on the job next season. As I mentioned previously, Cavani hasn’t been great for PSG this season. He’s managed an impressive 14 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances for the French giants, but he has the luxury of playing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic most of the time. He should find it relatively easy to score goals given the presence of so much attacking talent on the same pitch with him.
On the other hand, Martial has scraped together seven goals in 23 Premier League appearances for United. He doesn’t get the benefit of playing with world-class attacking talent and his club isn’t heads and shoulders above the rest of their league. One could argue that his goal-scoring record is superior to Cavani’s given those challenges he faces.
There’s also the small detail of the age of the two players. Martial is doing this at 20 years of age, while Cavani is already 29. That puts the PSG man just one year younger than Wayne Rooney. We all see how well the English striker has aged and the same thing could certainly happen to Cavani.

Most likely, this report is complete nonsense, but if it’s not Manchester United fans should stage a protest immediately. If somehow Ed Woodward is allowed to sanction a swap deal of Anthony Martial for Edinson Cavani then United fans will finally have someone to hate more than Liverpool.
